I attend such events for no reason other than I wholeheartedly love the thrill and atmosphere it creates and I walk away more often than not with thee greatest buzz. For me, there is no other circumstance that allows me to be so absolutely free in my emotion, to grant my mind rest from social media, deadlines, stress and irritating human interaction to then be submerged into a plethora of things that I adore: like-minded individuals and live music, such ceremonial times that I can be reunited with companions old and new and allow my otherwise anxiety-ridden mind to cease.
I do not attend these events for unconsenting human contact nor for my mind to be on constant edge and awareness for if/when such situations occur. The fact that this is a general occurrence that until recently was becoming an unquestioned, almost accepted gig ritual honestly disgusts me.
When I initially heard about the formation of The Girls Against campaign last week it both intrigued and infuriated me. The latter mostly as it proved that we had reached a point in which giving people the benefit of the doubt to know better and let the problem go left unsaid was no longer an option and that's unacceptable.
The Girls Against campaign is a completely unbiased support hub, run by a group of passionate girls that are offering help, advice and a kind ear where needed. I think it's of paramount importance that they are used as the stepping stones to an altogether more prominent problem we're faced with, in order to raise awareness and reach a wider group of individuals ,whether it is an issue they are directly affected by or not. Though someone's thought process cannot be altered and these unfortunate incidents will inevitably carry on it's an extremely important issue to be raised.
As a collective initiated by a group of young woman, so far appreciated by other young women it's imperative that this is a movement we continue to act upon.
This is a girl gang i'm more than happy to back.
